The EOS system (Electro-Optical System) represents a complete departure from previous Canon cameras, as everything changes, especially due to the lack of compatibility with FD lenses.
EOS cameras feature sophisticated electronics and excellent autofocus, made possible by the new range of EF lenses with integrated motors (USM). The coupling between the camera body and the lens is now purely electrical. Gone is the small cam that protruded from the rear of FD lenses.
The overall design is new, although it retains some small reminiscences of the T90, designed by Colani.

The name EOS has been retained to designate the digital SLR cameras of the brand.__________
The EOS 100 surprised everyone with its silence and reduced vibrations. Of course, the autofocus motor integrated into the USM lens (Ultra Sonic Motor) played a significant role, but Canon also made numerous technical improvements to the body to achieve this. Many metal gears are replaced by toothed rubber belts. Components usually prone to vibrations, such as the winding motor, are mounted on shock absorbers.
On the EOS 100, which stems from the EOS 1, some functions appear and will be present on all film EOS cameras until their discontinuation. For example, there are the two dials, including the large rear dial, which make it easy to select the shutter speed/aperture combination.
It is equipped with numerous expert modes and customizable functions. An optional barcode reader allowed scanning and adding new settings from a code book.
The built-in flash has an automatic zoom head from 28 to 80 mm, matching the focal length of the zoom lens supplied with the camera.
The motor has a speed of 3 frames per second.
